NBA YoungBoy is preparing to let fans see more of his world—this time through film. The Baton Rouge rapper has officially launched his own production company, 38 Films, and announced a new documentary centered on his life, music, and cultural impact. According to Variety, the project will be produced and distributed in partnership with Foundation Media Partners, marking YoungBoy’s first major move into filmmaking as a producer.

The documentary will be directed by Nico Ballesteros, known for the polarizing Kanye West-focused film In Whose Name?. While specific details remain under wraps, the project is expected to go far beyond a standard concert documentary. Rather than focusing solely on performances, the film aims to explore YoungBoy’s real-life journey—covering the pressures of nonstop touring, personal struggles, and the massive influence he’s built as one of hip-hop’s most-streamed artists.
Launching 38 Films aligns naturally with YoungBoy’s long-standing independent approach. He’s cultivated a devoted fanbase while largely avoiding traditional industry structures, and this new venture gives him full control over how his story is told. For an artist who’s often been at the center of headlines and speculation, owning his narrative represents a powerful next step.

The documentary promises an unfiltered look at life at the top of hip-hop—the grind, the chaos, and the moments fans rarely see online. Whether viewers are drawn to the behind-the-scenes access, the creative process, or the larger story of how YoungBoy became a cultural force, the film aims to capture all sides of his rise.
In a statement shared with Variety, Foundation Media Partners CEO Patrick Hughes said, “NBA YoungBoy is not just an artist—he’s a cultural force. Through Nico’s vision, this film captures that energy honestly and cinematically, while giving audiences a real window into who he is beyond the stage.”

No release date has been announced yet, but it’s clear that NBA YoungBoy’s next chapter extends well beyond music. Still, fans are eagerly awaiting his upcoming album Slime Cry, which is rumored to arrive as soon as this Friday.
