Kanye West, the visionary artist and entrepreneur, is once again challenging the norms of the music industry. In a recent exchange with the fan site YeFanatics, Ye revealed his contemplation of releasing his highly anticipated album, Vultures 2, exclusively through his own platform, Yeezy.com.
“We sell albums on Yeezy.com. I got 20 million Instagram followers,” Kanye shared with YeFanatics. “When 5% of my followers buy an album, that’s 1 million albums sold. That’s 300k more than the biggest album last year.”
This bold move would see Kanye breaking away from the traditional model of releasing music on streaming platforms, putting the power back into the hands of the artists themselves. By bypassing streaming services, Kanye aims to reclaim control over his art and directly connect with his dedicated fan base.
However, the response from fans has been mixed. YeFanatics conducted a poll revealing that 87.5% of respondents preferred Vultures 2 to be available on streaming services. Many fans expressed concerns about accessibility and the possibility of piracy if the album were solely sold digitally.
Despite the debate, Kanye remains steadfast in his vision. He believes that by selling directly through Yeezy.com, he can foster a stronger sense of community and support for his music. According to Ye, “Streaming is basically pirating.”
As the release date for Vultures 2 remains uncertain, Kanye reassured fans that he and Ty Dolla $ign are hard at work perfecting the project. With the album cover already revealed and anticipation reaching a fever pitch, Kanye West continues to push the boundaries of creativity and commerce in the hip-hop world.
