In a bold move that echoes his artistic spirit, Kanye West has listed his Malibu mansion for a surprising $53 million. Purchased just two years ago for $57 million, the property underwent a radical transformation under West’s vision, aiming to collaborate with renowned architect Tadao Ando.
The mansion, spanning an impressive 4,000 square feet, stands as a blank canvas with no windows or electricity, offering a unique opportunity for a visionary buyer. Jason Oppenheim of Selling Sunset, entrusted with the listing, describes it as a “Picasso on the water” waiting to be restored to the buyer’s specific standards with modern technology and excellence.
The decision to part with the property comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed by former project manager Tony Saxon, who claims he was fired due to disagreements over West’s unconventional demands. The lawsuit outlines West’s alleged desire to transform the mansion into a time capsule, discarding custom marble bathrooms, windows, plumbing, and electricity. Saxon claims West aimed to replace stairs with slides, wanting a retreat reminiscent of a “bomb shelter from the 1910s” and distancing himself from modern conveniences and government accessibility.
Despite the legal turmoil and the possibility of selling at a loss, West’s daring vision for the mansion remains an intriguing chapter in his enigmatic career. The property stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries and challenging conventional norms.
