Hip-Hop’s Ongoing Obsession “Illuminati”

Ever since Prodigy defiantly declared, “Illuminati want my mind, soul and my body,” on LL Cool J’s 1995 track, “I Shot Ya (Remix),” the mysterious secret society has cast its shadow over the hip-hop community. This lyrical revelation didn’t merely fade away; instead, it ignited a flame that continues to flicker in the genre’s landscape. The flame intensified when DJ Premier sampled Prodigy’s words for Jay-Z’s 1996 hit, “D’evils,” sparking a cascade of rumors and debates about the Illuminati’s alleged influence on rapper’s careers.

Conspiracy theories suggest that the Illuminati subtly manipulate artists to convey their agenda through lyrics, performances, and personal styles. While the existence of the Illuminati remains speculative, several rappers have openly claimed some level of affiliation with this enigmatic group.

One such artist is Rick Ross, who, in a candid moment on a YouTube video, casually admitted, “I’m in Illuminati.” His revelation, made while testing radio-controlled airplanes, adds another layer to the mystery surrounding the secret society.

Bhad Bhabie, the young sensation, also threw her hat into the Illuminati ring, stating in no uncertain terms that her success is attributed to her association with the secretive organization. “It is me joining the Illuminati,” she declared, dispelling any notions that talent or appearance played a role in her rise to stardom.

Vic Mensa, through the verses of his 2018 single “Heir to the Throne (Freestyle),” claimed that signing a deal with the Illuminati paved the way for a collaboration with Kanye West and elevated his status in the industry. These affirmations, though lacking concrete evidence, contribute to the mystique surrounding the Illuminati’s alleged influence on the hip-hop world.

The list of self-proclaimed Illuminati affiliates doesn’t end there. Rappers like Playboi Carti, Meek Mill, Future, Royce 5’9″, Joyner Lucas, Gucci Mane, Yeat, Blac Youngsta, Duckwrth, Jarren Benton, and Hopsin have alluded to their connection with the secret society through various lyrics in their songs.

Most recently, Sexyy Red took a unique approach to the Illuminati narrative, blending humor with intrigue during an Instagram Live session. While jokingly claiming she sold her soul to the Illuminati, the rapper playfully addressed persistent accusations from fans, adding a touch of satire to the ongoing conversation.

As the debate over the Illuminati’s role in hip-hop rages on, one thing remains certain—the allure of the unknown continues to captivate both artists and audiences alike. The cryptic influence of the Illuminati, whether real or imagined, adds an extra layer of mysticism to the already intricate tapestry of hip-hop culture.
