According to WBRZ, the incident occurred in a Sonic parking lot when Kimani’s eight-year-old sibling discovered a firearm inside the family vehicle while their mother and stepfather were working inside the restaurant. The younger child accidentally discharged the weapon, striking Kimani, who was playing outside the car. She later succumbed to her injuries.

Her mother expressed overwhelming gratitude on social media, writing through tears: “I know Baton Rouge love to say all the bad things people do.
