ASAP Rocky’s felony assault trial is nearing its conclusion, with jury deliberations set to begin this week. The jury, made up of seven women and five men, is currently on a break for President’s Day but will reconvene on Tuesday to discuss the two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm that the rapper is facing.
The case has been ongoing for weeks, but closing arguments were delivered on Friday. Rihanna, Rocky’s longtime partner and mother of his two children, was in attendance. Deputy District Attorney John Lewin addressed her presence, stating, “You have to ask yourselves why children that age would be here in a situation like this. You are not allowed to consider how this might affect Rihanna and his kids.”
Rocky is accused of firing a gun at his former friend ASAP Relli in 2021, though he claims he only carried a prop gun to deter attackers and that Relli initiated the confrontation. His attorney, Joe Tacopina, questioned Relli’s credibility, asking jurors, “If you had to make a decision—one of the most important in your life—on his word, would you do it?”
If convicted on both counts, Rocky could face up to 24 years in prison. Meanwhile, he continues to work on his upcoming album, Don’t Be Dumb.
