Yung Miami wanted Drake to be part of the remix to her breakout hit “Spend Dat,” but the collaboration never came together. Now, the former City Girls rapper is opening up about how the Toronto superstar handled her request—and why she wishes he had simply given her an answer.
During an appearance on Hot 97 with Nessa, Miami revealed that she reached out to Drake about jumping on the remix. Instead of receiving a response, however, she says the rapper left her message on read.
“Drake left me on read. I’m like, ‘Drake, what did I do?’” Miami explained during the interview. She added that she has a lot of love for Drake, but would have preferred a straightforward rejection over being ignored.
The situation is particularly notable because Miami had been vocal about wanting Drake involved in the song. “Spend Dat” became a major moment in her solo career, helping her generate renewed attention after years of recording as one-half of City Girls. A Drake feature could have given the record another major boost.
Ultimately, the remix arrived with Kodak Black and Lil Baby instead. Both artists brought their own energy to the track, while Miami remained at the center of the record. She also released an international version featuring Davido, Shenseea, and Vybz Kartel, expanding the song’s reach across different audiences.
Drake’s absence is understandable in an industry where major artists have to be selective about their collaborations. Even so, Miami’s comments reveal the frustration that can come with trying to secure a high-profile feature, particularly when an artist is looking to capitalize on a career-defining moment.
The timing of the conversation also coincides with the release of Miami’s debut solo album, Watch Dis, which arrived on October 23, 2026. After the success of “Spend Dat,” the project represents an important step in establishing her identity as a solo artist.
Although Drake did not appear on the remix, Miami has continued to build on the song’s momentum through additional collaborations and her new album. Her story also highlights how much a single feature from a superstar can mean to an artist trying to push a hit even further.
For now, there is no indication that the two artists have any personal issues. Miami made it clear that she still appreciates Drake; she simply wanted him to communicate his decision instead of leaving her waiting for a response.
Whether they eventually collaborate remains an open question. In the meantime, Miami is moving forward with Watch Dis and continuing to turn the success of “Spend Dat” into the next chapter of her career.
