NBA YoungBoy Says He’s Ready To Walk Away From Rap

NBA YoungBoy is seriously considering stepping away from music.

The Baton Rouge rapper opened up about his future during a recent interview with i-D Magazine, revealing that he would be willing to leave rap behind right now. After years of releasing music at an intense pace and navigating significant personal challenges, YoungBoy says his priorities have shifted.

YoungBoy has already had a remarkably productive 2026, releasing projects including Slime Cry earlier in the year. However, the rapper now appears more interested in slowing down, spending time with his family, and figuring out what he wants from life beyond his music career.

During his conversation with i-D, YoungBoy was direct about his current mindset. He explained that the money and accomplishments associated with being a successful rapper are no longer his main motivation.

“I want to quit right now, actually. But all of this… It’s way bigger than me.”

YoungBoy went on to explain that his children have become the biggest source of meaning in his life. Rather than measuring his legacy through records, money, or career milestones, he wants his impact to be reflected through his kids.

The rapper also suggested that he would rather remove himself from the spotlight than continue if he feels he can no longer make people happy through his music.

That perspective represents a major shift for an artist who has spent much of his career working at an extraordinary pace. YoungBoy became one of hip-hop’s most prolific young stars while also dealing with legal troubles, incarceration, personal losses, and the pressures that came with his rapid rise.

Now, the rapper appears to be prioritizing peace and family over maintaining the momentum of his career.

For fans hoping for another NBA YoungBoy project in the immediate future, his comments don’t offer much encouragement. His recent statements suggest that new music may not be coming anytime soon as he takes a step back from the demands of the industry.

Whether this becomes a permanent retirement or simply a period of rest remains uncertain. But for YoungBoy, the message is clear: his legacy as a father matters more to him right now than another achievement in music.
