Chief Keef has officially returned to where it all started.
The Chicago drill pioneer recently took the stage in his hometown for his first headlining concert inside Chicago city limits in roughly 14 years, marking a major moment for an artist whose sound helped put the city’s drill movement on the global map.
The long-awaited homecoming came after Keef’s originally scheduled September 12 performance at Northerly Island was postponed shortly before showtime. Live Nation attributed the cancellation to travel issues, while Keef later addressed the situation himself on social media and apologized to fans who had been waiting for the performance.
Despite the setback, the show eventually went forward, giving Chicago fans the opportunity to see Sosa headline in his hometown once again.
Keef’s relationship with Chicago has remained complicated over the years. Although he has performed in the surrounding area, including appearances at Lyrical Lemonade events in Bridgeview, his recent concert marked his first headlining performance within Chicago proper since 2012.
Earlier this month, fans also got a preview of his Chicago return when Keef joined Kanye West during Ye’s two-night Soldier Field homecoming. During the second night, Keef performed some of his signature records, including “Love Sosa” and “I Don’t Like,” in front of a massive hometown crowd.
The Chicago show arrives during an active period for Keef. His Chief Keef Live 2026 tour is supporting his latest project, Skeletor, which was released in March and features 14 tracks. He has also continued expanding his musical reach, including a recent collaboration with Katy Perry on the remix of “Legendary Lovers.”
Keef’s influence on modern rap remains undeniable. His early work helped define the sound and attitude of Chicago drill, while records such as “I Don’t Like,” “Love Sosa,” and “Faneto” became influential beyond the city’s borders.
Now, more than a decade after his last Chicago headlining show, Sosa is back on the road and reconnecting with the city that shaped his career.
The Chief Keef Live 2026 tour continues through October, with upcoming stops including New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.
For longtime fans, though, the Chicago homecoming stands apart. Chief Keef isn’t simply another rapper returning to his hometown—he’s an artist whose early Chicago movement became a blueprint for an entire generation of hip-hop.
