SZA Reportedly Calls Out AI Music Industry As Debate Over Suno Intensifies

SZA is once again voicing concerns about artificial intelligence and its growing role in the music industry, this time amid allegations involving AI music platform Suno and producer Diplo.

According to reports circulating on social media, SZA allegedly used a private Instagram account to criticize Suno and claim that Diplo has an ownership stake in the company. The alleged posts expressed concern over AI systems being trained on music created by Black artists, songwriters, and producers without their direct involvement or consent.

While the authenticity of the reported burner-account comments has not been independently verified, SZA did publicly address AI music technology through posts on her verified social media accounts.

In one widely shared message, the Grammy-winning artist expressed frustration over claims that AI music models had been trained using hundreds of her songs. SZA argued that musicians should be concerned about the implications of AI systems learning from artists’ work, particularly when questions surrounding permission, compensation, and ownership remain unresolved.

The comments align with concerns she has raised in the past regarding artificial intelligence. Beyond creative rights, SZA has also spoken about the environmental impact associated with large-scale AI infrastructure, including the energy consumption and resource demands of massive data centers.

Her criticism reflects a broader debate taking place throughout the music industry. Many artists, producers, and songwriters have questioned whether AI companies should be allowed to train models on copyrighted material without explicit licensing agreements. Supporters of stronger protections argue that artists deserve control over how their work is used and compensated when incorporated into AI systems.

SZA is not alone in expressing those concerns. Recently, Tyler, The Creator also shared criticism related to AI infrastructure, specifically discussing environmental concerns surrounding data center expansion and resource usage.

At the center of the current discussion is Suno, one of the most prominent AI music-generation platforms. The company has become a major player in the rapidly growing AI music sector, attracting both praise from technology advocates and criticism from artists worried about intellectual property rights and creative ownership.

As for Diplo, he has not publicly responded to the allegations or comments attributed to SZA. Likewise, there has been no official statement from Suno addressing the latest controversy at the time of writing.

The situation highlights the growing divide between artists and AI companies as technology continues to reshape the music business. Questions about copyright, artist consent, compensation, and ethical training practices remain unresolved, ensuring that debates like this are likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

With more musicians speaking out about AI’s impact on creativity and ownership, the conversation surrounding artificial intelligence in music appears far from settled.
