DJ Akademiks Warns Kendrick Lamar Against Dropping On Drake’s “ICEMAN” Release Date

Drake has officially locked in May 15 as the release date for his upcoming project ICEMAN, instantly turning it into one of the most anticipated dates in hip-hop this year. As Drake’s first solo album since his explosive feud with Kendrick Lamar, fans across the genre are expected to tune in regardless of where they stand in the rivalry.

The rollout is continuing to build momentum as ICEMAN Episode 4 is set to arrive next Thursday, giving listeners another preview of the direction Drake plans to take during this new era. With anticipation climbing online, plenty of hip-hop personalities have already begun weighing in on the project.

One of the loudest voices has been DJ Akademiks, who recently spoke about the album during an appearance on VladTV. Akademiks, who has long positioned himself as closely connected to Drake’s camp, shared strong thoughts about the possibility of Kendrick releasing music on the same day.

According to Akademiks, dropping alongside Drake would only fuel narratives that Kendrick is still actively competing with him. During the interview, he argued that Lamar has already enjoyed what he described as a “two-year victory lap” following the highly publicized battle between the two rap superstars.

Akademiks also pointed out the inevitable sales comparisons that would dominate social media if both artists released projects simultaneously. While commercial numbers do not necessarily determine artistic quality, they often shape online discussions and fan narratives, especially when artists of this magnitude are involved. In his view, Drake would likely have the advantage when it comes to first-week sales and streaming totals.

Despite the speculation, the chances of Kendrick surprise-dropping an album on May 15 appear slim. While fans continue imagining another dramatic showdown between the rap giants, there is currently little indication that Lamar plans to interrupt Drake’s rollout.

Still, the conversation alone shows how much interest remains around the aftermath of one of hip-hop’s biggest rivalries. Whether ICEMAN lives up to expectations or not, Drake’s return is already dominating discussion across the culture.
