Mary J. Blige is embracing a new kind of honor this Halloween season — fans dressing up as her. During a recent appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul shared with People that seeing people don her signature looks each year makes her feel truly celebrated.
“I love it so much because it says I’m a household name,” Blige said. “When we were kids, we wanted to be Wonder Woman, you know? Me and my sister used to fight over who got to be the guy in KISS with the tongue hanging out of his mouth. Now, people are fighting over who’s going to be Mary J. Blige for Halloween. I love that.”
The singer says these Halloween tributes represent the deep love and support she’s received throughout her career — something she continues to cherish. That appreciation inspired her latest For My Fans Tour, which she says was dedicated entirely to her supporters.
“I named it the For My Fans Tour because every Mary J. Blige concert is really about them,” she explained. “If it wasn’t for the fans, there would be none of this. It’s all about their reaction to the music and how much they love and support me — and as you can see, they don’t miss a beat. Sometimes, I don’t even have to sing that much.”
Fans will soon get another chance to experience her energy live, as footage from her For My Fans Tour stop at Madison Square Garden will be featured in a new concert film, Mary J. Blige: For My Fans. The film hits theaters nationwide from November 5 through November 8, with tickets available now.
